CODE OF CONDUCT
2024-2025
As the Parent/Guardian, I pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating in swimming by following this Parent’s Code of Conduct.
1. I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all athletes, coaches and officials at every swim meet, practice, and club event.
2. I will encourage my child to speak directly with coaches if they have concerns about their training, meets, etc. to promote independence.
3. I will do my best to communicate with the coach ahead of time if my child will miss more than one practice in a row. Furthermore, I will encourage my own child to communicate directly with the coach when appropriate.
4. I will support coaches and officials working with my child, to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
5. I understand parents are not to be on the pool deck during practice or at swim meets and that only designated coaches are allowed on the pool deck.
6. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol; and will refrain from their use at all athletic events.
7. I will remember that coaches have the best interest of the athletes in mind and want them to succeed. I understand swimming is not only about best times or making cuts.
8. I will ask my child to treat other swimmers, coaches, fans, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
9. I will discuss any concerns I have with the coach privately and respectfully and I will follow the appropriate communication channels. I will not call or text the coaches directly unless I have been given explicit permission from them to do so. I understand that email is the preferred method of communication. I will never disrupt a practice to speak with a coach.
10. I will allow a 24’ hour “cool down” window before emailing or discussing any serious concerns I have with the coaches or Board of Directors.
11. I understand that the Board of Directors is composed of volunteers who have the best interests of Triton Swimming at heart. Therefore, I will treat them with respect when voicing concerns. I understand that abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
12. I will not speak negatively about the coaches or members of Triton Swimming at practices, swim meets or other events, nor will I publicly question decisions made by the coaches or the Board of Directors. I understand that any issues or concerns I may have should be addressed in a private manner and through appropriate channels.
13. I understand that participation in Triton Swimming is one of many options in the Edmonton area. If at any time I do not agree with the philosophy, culture, or mission, I understand that I have a choice of where to swim.
14. I understand that participation in practices and swim meets is a privilege not a requirement. If a swimmer or parent is found to be violating the Athlete or Parent Code of Conduct, coaches have the discretion to remove them from practice, a meet or suspend them from future events.
I realize that if I violate this Code of Conduct, I may be subject to disciplinary action that could include one or more, but not limited to the following:
- Verbal warning by Head Coach and/or Triton Swimming Board
- Written Warning
- An in-person conference with a board member, the parent(s), and the coach(es) to determine the best course of action for the parent(s) and family going forward. Parental abuse of the above Code of Conduct may prohibit your child from further participation, suspension from the team practices or events or permanent removal from the program.
By signing below, the Parent/Guardian agrees to abide by and be subject to this Code of Conduct.
